Sil Khannaz

Perlis, the northern-most state in Peninsular Malaysia, would seem to be the most unlikely place for a death metal band to form, yet thats exactly where Sil Khannaz started out 13 years ago. Way back in 1987 while the country was swept away by the rock-wave, three cousins -- Jaie, CD and Din -- found themselves sharing the same interest in a local black metal ancestor, Blackfire. Inspired by the now-defunct Blackfire, the boys roped in a buddy, Che Mat, and formed Sil Khannaz with Jaie on vocals, CD on guitar, Din on bass and Che Mat on drums. Since the music scene in Perlis was not conducive to their future as a death metal band, Sil Khannaz moved to Kuala Lumpur, hoping to strike it big. They went through a bit of a shake-up when Che Mat did not agree with the move and left. But the remaining members of the band did not lose hope. Kuala Lumpur indeed gave the group a bit more space to move and more opportunities to expand their musical talent. They managed to secure some small gigs at clubs in the city but the big score still eluded them. In July 1990, Sil Khannaz recorded their demo Doctrine To Hell. The album had shades of black metal influences but unfortunately the demo did not do well on the market. It did however manage to arouse interest in some people. In 1991, the band was offered the chance to do a death metal compilation album with Brain Dead, Silent Death, Picagari and Suffercation but the project never got underway. Sil Khannaz was undaunted in any case and kept honing their musical skill and playing at clubs. During their club stint, they met Tom, a bassist, and Lan, a drummer (from Infectious Maggots), and persuaded them to join the band. In July 1992, Sil Khannaz recorded their second demo -- Assassin Led By Blasphemy. Their music progressed with better arrangements and production. Assassin Led By Blasphemy marked the birth of the true Sil Khannaz sound and helped the band shrug off the black metal tag. In the demo, they experimented with original compositions that reflected a mixture of western aggression and eastern moods. The demo was well received and record label VSP Malaysia signed Sil Khannaz as their recording artist. But just as the band seemed to be knocking on the right doors, Din had to leave. Joe Slaughter (Infernal Death) was recruited to replace him. The bands mass-market debut album Conception Of Madness was released in February 1993. It drew some positive reviews and the CD sold 20,000 units. This drove the band on and in 1994, Sil Khannaz released a self-financed album Pendita Gila EP with Nebiula Productions. However, Tom and Joe had to leave the band not long after while Lan struggled with his commitments to Infectious Maggots. Replacements were sought for Tom and Joe while Lan left his former group for good to concentrate on Sil Khannazs next album. By then, Hashim Pestilence and Dark E had become part of Sil Khannaz. Gerbang Kayangan was recorded in 1997 and sold 22,000 units. The album is unique in that it featured classical Malay and tales and legends from long ago. After series of mini tours, Sil Khannaz recorded the live album, Stronger Than Before, on the Malaysian National Day, August 31, 1998. A year later, their digitally re-mastered album, Conception Of Madness was re-issued with three bonus tracks. Sil Khannaz is currently composed of Jaie Jokhannaz (vocals), CD (guitar), Dark E (guitar), Hashim Pestilence (bass) and Lan Bye (drums). Record Label: Nebiula Productions Distribute By: PonyCanyon Music Discography: Conception Of Madness (1992), Pendita Gila Mini Album (1994), Gerbang Kayangan (1997), Stronger Than Before (Live) (1997), Purnama 13 Compilation (1999), Conception Of Madness (re-issue) (1999) and Bara Pawaka (2000).

Estrella

Formed in 2006, Estrella originally consisted of three members; Ashraf, Syariful Adzwan (Yob), and fronted by Liyana. In May 2006, the Troubaganger acoustic gig marked their first-ever performance, initially winning over the audience at cozy La Bodega KL. However, very soon after the three members were then reduced to the current two as Ashraf decided to leave the band for personal reasons.

Armed with their guitars and heartfelt tunes, Liyana and Yob began circulating the local music scene with their own brand of acoustic music. Numerous open-mic sessions and gigs at notable shows around town followed suit; namely Moonshine, Troubadours, Doppelganger, and No Black Tie, and the band began to generate more attention for the duo from both the audience and the organizers.

In June 2006, Estrella’s first single, ‘Take It Slow’ was featured in Troubadours’s “The Voices Next Door” compilation album, and the song was then taken by RedComm productions as part of the soundtrack for the SunSilk TV series Impian Illiyana which ran for 13 consecutive weeks. Gaining some pretty decent exposure in the media as well as the indie scene, friendships were also made with likeminded individuals and groups along the way, providing them with even more ideas and opportunity to grow musically.

Having captured the attention of the Laguna Music masterminds, Estrella further evolved their genre from indie jazz to a slightly more complex sound, with dreamy and spacey after-effects. Under the suggestion of Laguna Music Producer, Jeffrey Little, the strummers now became a light band - with members, Shamsul Idzwan on percussions and Jeffrey Little, himself on drums.

Making rounds at gigs around town as a full band, opening for Seven Collar T-shirt for their showcase ‘A Seven Collar Sonique Cinematique’ and performing at the annual KL Sing Song 2007 show alongside notable singer-songwriters like Azmyl Yunor, Pete Teo and Shanon Shah, gave the band ample media exposure and a good headstart.

Having worked their way to perfecting their existing and new material, Estrella’s self-titled album was released on the 28th of December 2007. Following the release of the album, Estrella released two singles, ‘Ternyata’ & ‘Stay’, to reach-out to both the Malay & English markets.

Everyday musings and inward thoughts are the main elements in their music, using simplicity as the main staple. Being so new to the scene, Estrella is simply going with the flow, and taking in stride whatever it is that comes their way. Keep you ears peeled for this act, they’re bound to reach and capture the hearts of music-enthusiasts everywhere.

Mocca

The story began when Arina (vocal and flute), Riko (guitar), Toma (bass) and Indra (drum)– got together in a college band. After a year of struggling with the boredom of performing other people’s music, they decided to write their own songs.
In 1997 they composed four songs, unfortunately, those songs weren’t well accepted by the other members of the band. After caught up in conflicts and tons of disagreements, the band decided to split up leaving Arina and Riko mystified with their deserted materials.
“From waltz and bossanova to ’70s disco and rock, each song (written in English) has a different beat determined by the girl’s mood. When playing live, MOCCA is supported by six additional players on keyboards, guitar, percussion, trumpet, trombone and sax.”
Their debut album “My Diary” contains 13 songs written from a girl’s point of view and her diary entries. The album starts with a Once Upon A Time and is followed by a song telling of a first encounter with her Secret Admirer. Then after much hesitation in Twist Me Around, she decides to go steady with the boy in Me & My Boyfriend. In Telephone they break up, understanding that When the Moonlight Shines, they just weren’t meant for each other and thus, Rain Will Fall, Life Keeps On Turning.
From waltz and bossanova to ’70s disco and rock, each song (written in English) has a different beat determined by the girl’s mood. When playing live, MOCCA is supported by two additional players on keyboards and trumpet.

Dead Mushroom

~From the DRUMMER'S P.O.V~ Those days, Pak Tam BB & Hard Rock was 'The Place'. It was in the mid 90s where I had the opportunity to try out with a newly formed unnamed band. Their former drummer flew off to Australia and left them searching high & low. I wasn't in any serious band at the time so I took the offer. Eventually, the jam session hooked up well and everything else is history and history became everything else! Back in '96 DEADMUSHOOM together with SPIRAL KINETIC CIRCUS (fathul, nazeri, andy & ajin) came out with a SPLIT RELEASE DEMO 1996, recorded live under Neitherworlds Tapes Unlimited. The songs were recorded at two studios: 1. ESE** (Bach & Traz bangsar) in July and 2. SGJ brickfields in October engineered by ajin. OAG

When Positive Tone released OAG's Old Automatic Garbage album in December 1994, no one was expecting that the group of four teenage boys who describe their music as "60s Crunchy Pop Fuzz" would open a new chapter in local English music. The 11-song album backed by the national hit '60s TV' not only became the biggest ever English hit, it opened the doors for more appreciation towards home-made English music. If not for that album, local English music might still be considered as "underground" if not second class. Old Automatic Garbage went triple-platinum and helped spark off the commercialization of alternative music into mainstream Malaysia. OAG never looked back since : They wrote and performed the Official 1997 FIFA World Youth Cup song, a song that was also released in 8 European countries. They also participated in a landmark alternative compilation album called Boys & Girls 1+1=3 which introduced other groups like Nice Stupid Playground, IntoXicated, Brodwyn ( later re-named Juliet The Orange ) and a solo act Nita. "Boys * Girls 1+1=3" went platinum. In 1997, OAG released EP 67, an EP that went gold in 3 days. The EP was a landmark and a wonderful experimentation between alternative and dance music. OAG then released Melody Mocker in 1999. The album included a groundbreaking CD-ROM section where fans can not only view the various lyrics, artwork and interviews of the group; they can also re-mix certain OAG audio samples for fun! The CD made it to the 1999 PIKOM-Computimes Finals in the CD-ROM category and also managed to gain a GOLD sales award. EIGHT YEARS AFTER "60s TV" OAG released Opera Radhi-o Friendly. This time around OAG set their eyes on a bigger goal than just to conquer the English-listening crowd: They expanded their horizons and also attracted the Malay-listening crowd. Opera Radhi-o Friendly has sold over 20,000 units, helped by their ultra-cool animated music video for "Slumber", a song that climbed to the 1 spot on Carta Era. Many were left open-mouthed, astonished at the high level of songwriting and music production found in Satelit Ink, their latest album. If the highly-successful precious album Opera Radhi-o Friendly marked the beginning of a new era for one of the most-loved alternative pop groups in Malaysia, Satelit Ink has confirmed OAG's status as a credible yet commercial indie pop outfit, capable of attracting listeners and ardent fans from all walks of life and of all ages. Their hit "akustatik" is a statement of poetic beauty, excellently guided through with beautiful inter-weaving guitars. In fact, all the tracks on Satelit Ink are just too deliciously wondrous and it is a musical crime to even try to describe the songs here. One just has to listen to the album and be taken away on an incredible musical journey. Close your eyes, let your mind go free and i'll bet that you won't want the music to stop. After former members Naza, Alem and Mon left OAg to form rival band 'The Times', Radhi shopped around to recruit a new line up to form the OAG that we know today. OAG now consists of Radhio on vocals, Fizul on guitars, Nizam also on guitars, Eric on bass and Zul who still remains on drums. OAG has just released their latest studio album OrAnG.

Disagree

The year was 1995. The conception of Disagree took form between the brotherly bonds of two high-school buddies, Zahid and Hamka. Together with band members Lan and Amir, the quartet gigged around KL and did what every band in Malaysia did: Recorded their first demo! “We made Never Cry Wolf in ’96, in a house which was also a studio. I think it was called Bach & Traz. It also seems that we were the last band to record there. They closed down a week later. It didn’t cost us much, but it sounded great at the time. We managed to lash out 10 songs in 2 hours. Only 2 of them survived in our present jamming list today.” Zahid It wasn’t until interests were sparked in ’97 by a small independent label, did Disagree record their 2nd demo, untitled. However, as fast as the spark of interest lit, it died due to internal label obscurities and Disagree hopes were dashed. On the roll downhill, the band started to show signs of cracks. Members were focusing their interests on other things and the lack of commitment from everyone brought Disagree into a slow, sleeping, lull. What started between two classroom buddies and carried on through high school seemed to be ending as they entered the work force. Stretched out to its limit, Disagree took a hiatus from the scene for two long years and would have completely fizzled out into oblivion, had it not been for those rumors!? It carried throughout KL, these talks of a rock concert! Zahid and Hamka dragged themselves out of bed for it and headed out to the One Utama car parking lot, where indeed, like the rumors said, a rock concert was being held. “We were blown away at whole experience of being in the crowd and dreamt of being on stage entertaining the crowd.” Zahid Ironically, it was the first ‘Rock The World Concert’ that gave Disagree the swift kick up the arse that it needed, to get it together, and with it came some crucial decision making. The band name remained even with the arrival of newcomers Aziz and Ashroff and with it, an arduous gigging schedule for the next 5 years. Disagree slowly seeped into the scene and played just about anywhere and everywhere that it brought them, gigging like there was no tomorrow. It paid off. Disagree had begun to make a name for themselves. The beginning of 2001 saw Disagree create their next demo that would inevitably cause a ripple effect in the scene: Homemade Jam. This demo gained radio airplay on Wow FM as well as Hitz and various magazines voted the demo the most popular and groundbreaking demo to be reviewed. “When we made Homemade Jam we never expected the kind of reception that we received. It was just simply amazing how much a small demo from a small band can affect people.” Zahid They started to become more actively involved in the scene as they stepped into the shoes of gig organizers. The Fat Ant Music Festival was created and Disagree took on 30 local underground bands and promoted them for a month. Later that same year, Disagree opened for ‘Rock the World II’, one of their biggest achievements to date and continued to be in the lineup for ‘Rock The World’ III & IV. It was around the time of Rock the World III when Fat Boys Records, an independent label who signed grungers Naked Breed and was headed by LO, sparked an interest. With talks beginning in 2003, Disagree went away to tighten their set for the recording of their debut album. After 10 back breaking months and 11 tracks later, the arrival of their mastered album from California, completed this chapter. Disagree released their debut album ‘At the End of the Day’ on February 10, 2004 to the Malaysian masses and they couldn’t be happier! “We're just a band that wants to succeed and do our best.

Shizuka

In early 90's, 4 friend decide to formed a band called HeadCleaner. Heavily influenced by Greenday, Sea Sick Pirate and alike at that time, HeadCleaner was one among very small number of bands played punk rock along Toxin 99% etc in Ipoh. The band contributed 2 songs in Bodysurfmusic earliest Kopi Sechewen 1 Compilation featuring many talented band in Ipoh. The band played a few gigs around Ipoh before releasing their first demo tape "Do Problem". The band split-up just before releasing their 1st EP "Life's Less Solution" in 1994/95 after their singer/songwriter, Art decided to quit the band because of his personal problem.

The lead guitarist of the band, Pyan who still did not ready to follow that path decide to try his crappy style of songwriting which is much softer-side of Headcleaner. With a female vocal joining the three of them (which they forgotten her name), Pyan decide to called the band Dream Project before changing it to Shizuka and The Bad Dreams. Somehow the "forgotten female vocal" went MIA just before they records their first 2 track included in Fresh and Crisp Compilation produced by their own indie label Hatequarters [now known as ihateshizukamusic] forcing Pyan to take her place as a vocalist. Shizuka then joined by Elly in 1997 to take empty spaces left by Nua who didn't feel playing the bass was giving him fun anymore. He then appointed himself as a rhythm guitar and later as a keyboard player for the band.

Since they were no longer with a female vocalist they decided to drop the The Bad Dreams leaving only Shizuka which easier to to pronounce, said Wan the drummer. Shizuka then records another 2 tracks for the Kopi Sechewen II produced and distribute by Bodysurfmusic. The track Redline95 become their stepping stone for Shizuka to be known among friends throughout Malaysia.
In 2002 they released their 1st EP "Records of a Lifetime" consisting 7 songs + 1 Rerecorded version of "The Car" previously released in Kopi Sechewen II Compilation. The EP were sold out and will be reissue in near future said Pyan when asked about the EP availability. Shizuka played a couple more shows before went into near hibernation mode by only releasing to the internet one Pyan accoustic solo track in late 2002 ; Goodbye [enough is enough]. Later in 2004, Ijan joined the band taking Elly position [Elly are now in a band called The Hans].

The Otherside Orchestra

The band on everyone’s lips these days is a little ensemble called The OtherSide Orchestra. Actually, “little” is an understatement. Consisting of members Wan, Izwin, Haizal, Rasheed, Angah, Azan, Shah and honorary members Rifal, Batak, Faiz and Izzat, there’s definitely strength in numbers as far as OtherSide is concerned.
With such a large group, one is inclined to think their live performances would be impossible to watch. But therein lies the band’s appeal. While Wan, Izwin, Haizal, Rasheed, Angah, Azan and Shah work it on stage, Rifal provides special lighting effects to complement their music. Batak, Faiz and Izzat are in charge of sound, creating and controlling vocal effects. Suffice to say, watching this band live is unlike any other in the scene. “There are many of us in the band, and we have all kinds of sounds – sort of like an orchestra,” explains Izwin about their band dynamics. “But we’re a different kind of orchestra, the ‘other’ kind. So the [band’s] name just made sense.”
With an album entitled Electromancetacy out, the band has been gigging non-stop and getting a lot of attention along the way. For a band that has only been at it for a year, being touted as an “It” band is definitely flattering. Izwin says, “We didn’t expect it because it happened so fast. But the scene is growing and people are curious to check out new bands. Besides it helps that we sound different and have so many people on stage.

Nitrus

KENYATAAN AKHBAR Kebangkitan kumpulan muzik independent tempatan menguasai industri muzik tempatan masa kini disambut positif. Perjuangan dilakukan kumpulan terdahulu kini menampakkan sinar. Album Baru “?

Prana

This multi-racial band, which has been around the Malaysian music scene for several years now, was first introduced to the public as a rap-core band in the compilation album titled 'Family Day' after being approached by recording company, Posse Records. The band later produced the Funk Core Rap album, 'Have a Nice Jaywalk', which was released under Posse Records. The highly enthusiastic album resulted in Prana being nominated for the AIM 2001 awards for Best New English Artiste.

The promotions and shows however, interrupted their studies as at that time, all the members were still pursuing their education. Due to this, they took a break from the music scene. Two years later, now former bassist, Pablo Torrejon, came back to Kuala Lumpur to finish their second album under the bands own independent label, Laguna Records. Recording of the bands second album got underway at the bands own recording studio called Greenhouse Studio set-up in Ampang.

The bands vibes come from a mixture of different types of musical influences and cultures. Prana write highly enthusiastic songs that deal with interesting places and fascinating people that they meet in their lives. Prana's musical influence would be reggae, funk, metal and drum & bass only combining these all into their own style creating Greenhouse Effect. The band spent three months creating the songs and recording at the same time. Some of the tracks on the Greenhouse Effect album were mixed and mastered in Los Angeles. Prana's second album, Greenhouse Effect has since been released under Laguna Records in 2003 and distributed by Universal Music Malaysia.

In the end of 2005, Prana's latest album was released. Disc 03, comes after major line-up changes. With vocalist Eric Ruffin leaving the band, guitarist Jamir Adiong took over the roll as lead vocalist. Former Lyme bassist, Azman Ali, then joined the band as bassist. The album, quite different from the previous two, incorporates a blend of all the influences brought to by the changes, giving it an amazing blend of sounds.

Nice Stupid Playground

Nicestupidplayground was formed in Sarawak, Malaysia in 1992 and fronted by Charles Rossem. Musically, they are influenced by the now defunct early 80s British sounds. The current band members are Charles Rossem (vocals), John Boniface (bassist), Abdul Aziz Sahal (guitars), Bendy Ismardy (drums), Nellfee (guitars) and Abdul Hadi (keyboards). Nellfee and Abdul Hadi was recruited early 2005 before the recording of the new album. In 1996, John Boniface (bassist) sent their most successful demo titled Thirtyzeroeight to Paul Moss, one of Positive Tones highly rated producer. The demo automatically caught Paul Moss interest and immediately offered nicestupidplayground a compilation album deal. The compilation which was released in 1997 entitled Boys & Girls 1 + 1 = 3 in which nicestupidplayground contributed 3 songs- Bedroom Window, She Wants and and I dont admire . Bedroom Window was the main single for the compilation and was well received everywhere. It was a successful year for nicestupidplayground when the compilation was awarded a Double Platinum from album sales and caught music critics attention when the compilation album won The Best English Album at the Anugerah Industri Muzik in 1997. To topped a successful year for nicestupidplayground, Bedroom Window was handpicked in Hong Kong by Holywood movie producer Wayne Wang, to be included as a soundtrack to the movie titled The Chinese Box which starred Jeremy Irons and Gong Li. Bedroom Window video which was directed by Planet Films also won Monthly Best Music Video (March) in the Video Muzik show. Prior to that, Bedroom Window was nominated in five categories at the finals of Anugerah Video Muzik (Video Music Awards)1997. Dubbed as Sarawaks best kept secret, nicestupidplayground success follows with a full length album deal offered by Positive Tone. In 1999, they started working on their new album and by December 1999, a new first single stereogirl was released and immediately topped several local chart show. In February 2000, the first full length album my life is my parents biggest television was released and at the same time, a music video for Stereogirl was shot. Stereogirl music video was awarded 3rd Best Music Video at the Malaysian Video Awards (MVA) in 2000. The album also received good reviews from music critics everywhere but unfortunately the album sales are not too convincing. Nicestupidplayground parted with Positive Tone in 2003 due to a change of management. They did get an offer to record a full length Malay album but were not keen to persue the project. However, nicestupidplayground keep on performing at numerous shows both in East Malaysia and the Peninsular during their quiet period. They keep on writing new songs and hoping somewhere, somehow there will be an offer a deal by any label or perhaps a potential investor who are willing to invest. Finally in 2005, nicestupidplayground was offered an album deal by Mr. Clinton Ang who is now the spokeperson cum manager for the band. All the new songs were recorded between May October 2005 at Zanzibar Media in Kuching, Sarawak. The album is called A Beautiful Life and musically tagged as the new BorneoPop, most of the new songs sounding pretty much from the 80s New Wave era. Nicestupidplayground hope to catch up with their fans whove been waiting for something new from the band for the past 5 years. The 10 new songs mentioned are 1. beautiful life 2. miracle 3. happy 4. chasing butterfly 5. telecommusication 6. if all else fails 7. stronger than before 8. closer 9. my teenage view 10. because we are With a new self-released album out, they hope to prove to any major labels that signing them will never be a mistake.

Force Vomit

Force Vomit, born in Singapore.
The sordid saga that is the Vorce Fomit story started in late 1993 when four night-shift taxi drivers decided to take musical matters into their own hands and start their own band. This motley crue of treble spankers has had many line-up changes and messy misadventures since then - with one thing in common - they still can't play their instruments properly. Despite charming obstacles like being expected to play for free 90% of the time (and in the few instance when they do get moolah, get labelled 'sellout' by dogmatic scenesters) and a media that tries its best to pretend 'local music' doesn't exist (and in the few instance when they do get exposure, get labelled 'sellout' by dogmatic scenesters), these style-deprived shenanigans are here to stay.

One Buck Short

Founded by Hafiz (previously on bass) and Rahul (guitars) in high school, this awesome foursome began their career playing shows at school events and battle of the bands competitions before coming out in the local scene with a handful of experience and a truckload of rockin’ songs that’ll definitely get you bopping, hopping and moshing non-stop. With a love for So-Cal Punk, One Buck Short has developed into one of the leading rock acts in the region.

Their debut single ‘That Day’ from their EP ‘Where Is The Mouse?!’ managed to break through to the Top 5 on the Hitz.fm Malaysian Top Ten with the band promoting their release with performances at both low-key underground shows as well as high profile shows such as ‘Rock the World IV’, ‘Rock the World V’ as well as the Asian X Games. The band was also nominated as the Best Newcomer artist in the first ever Hitz.FM Malaysian English Top 10 awards held in 2004. In 2006, the band was nominated again for ‘Best Rock’ and ‘Best Live Act’ in Malaysia. With the achievements of their independent EP, OBS have made a great impact to modern urban punk rock music by displaying powerful energetic stage performances that woe their audiences. Currently the band is putting finishing touches on their debut album under the hands of talented producer / arranger Greg Henderson. With the first English single, “FAST TIMES” and first ever Malay single by the band, “KELIBAT KORUPSI” blasting through the airwaves in Malaysia and Singapore, One Buck Short’s upcoming album, “HALAL & LOVING IT” is already regarded by many as one of the most anticipated releases of 2007.

Quote from MTV Asia Marketing and Communications Manager: “One Buck Short is power-packed urban punk rock, they represent the best in raw, home-grown talent – and with a litany of chart-toppers, awards and fans across the region to boot”. One Buck Short is also fresh of opening for Fall Out Boy in Singapore as part of the international rock bands only stop on their “Infinity on High” world tour early this year as well as an MTV LIVE production with Good Charlotte in Kuala Lumpur in April 2007. The band is also the only Malaysian act that performed at the inaugural Singapore Festival (SingFest 07) in August. This saw One Buck Short sharing the stage with current heavyweights in the industry like Sugar Ray, Gym Class Hero’s, The Academy Is, Hinder, MXPX and so much more. OBS ended 2007 with a bang, supporting My Chemical Romance for their show in Malaysia. Come 2008, One Buck Short will be looking to tour South East Asia to support their brand new release - Halal & Loving It.

Love Me Butch

In short, Love Me Butch's focused procession of channeled aggression and steely resolve holds you firmly in their grasp that surely only intensifies in its live format. Reza's ability to scream and howl with the finest in addition to lightly glide in the various time-changing moments, allows breathing room for Meng's guitar to cut effectively as Kong's bass and Singh's drums anchor it all without restraint as can be felt particularly between the seamless link of "Dream Of My Own" and "Fortress Of A Million." The final turn and lap into the reflective, self-disclosing jangling quiet closer of "Living In Disguise" gives further proof that Love Me Butch are keen to reveal themselves, determined to boldly travel the world.

The Official

Album kedua (yang masih mengekalkan konsep Oi!, Rock n Roll dan Indie), Youll Never See The Last of Us telah dikeluarkan pada tahun 2003 di bawah naungan Clockwork Records.

Couple

Malaysian power pop band Couple are a self-effacing bunch when it comes to their music, calling themselves "incompetent" musicians with "dodgy" songcraft. With a slew of positive reviews from the press however, there's clearly nothing "incompetent" or "dodgy" about Couple, and they're proving it with a set of international gigs under their belt.

Honing their craft since 1995, Couple is one of the best-kept secrets of the underground music scene in Malaysia and Singapore. Their highly infectious and addictive melodies consistently put the smiles on crowds at their live performances, so it's no surprise that Couple is on the verge of gaining international recognition.

When the band released their fourth demo Listening To The Pop, it received a glowing review on an American online magazine that led to enquiries from various record labels overseas. Couple has since signed with Sizzleteen Records, a small upstate New York based record label, staying faithful to their indie roots.

With an American label in place, the path is being paved. Plans to release their debut album in America aside, Couple will also have a song included in the International Pop Overthrow Compilation Vol. 9 compilation CD, following in the footsteps of previously featured artists like Fountains of Wayne, Brendan Benson, AM Radio and Jellyfish.

Record labels in Australia and Japan have also expressed interest so it looks like international adulation won't be too far off for the group who has a string of performances lined up.

Skudap Skudip

Bukan sudu bukan sudip, Tetapi Skudap Skudip. This band was established since 2005. Dodd the vocalist formed Skudap-Skudip, the band members consist of:

The A.C.A.B

THE A.C.A.B. was originally formed as a Street Rock band, A.C.A.B. ('94-'03) back in 1994. The founding members were Max Hafiz (Megat Hafiz) & Edy J Herwan, both KL City based lads played in the same previous band before. Hardy Sham, Black & Anas later joined and A.C.A.B. started gigging across almost each & every states in Malaysia right after releasing a self-titled demo in '95. A.C.A.B. then recorded an EP, followed by 3 albums with 2 Live albums and also few singles, another EP, compilations & tribute albums with several line up changes occurred during the whole process. Zul, Botak & Irfan were among others who also played with A.C.A.B. on various recordings & gigs/concerts. A.C.A.B. latter enjoyed the recognitions of being the Godfather of Eastern Oi!/Street Rock & inspired the birth of Ska music in Malaysia.

A.C.A.B. played the very last gig in '03 & while Max (also formerly known as Magskin) had to leave the country, other former band members were & still are enjoying quite successful musical careers with their own bands respectively such as Edy J with Gerhana Ska Cinta & Irfan with The Times. A.C.A.B. released the very last album in '04 which was recorded in '03 & a 'Tribute to A.C.A.B.' album was then recorded by various bands in '04 & it marked the end of an era of the 'Absolute Chaotic Asian Band' and it sparked a revival of the Eastern Oi!/Street Rock movement from the new generation.

After being an absentee for 2 years, Max has decided to have another go at it. Accompanied by former band members, Edy J & Irfan with the newly appointed Mono, THE A.C.A.B. is born. It's 'THE' A.C.A.B., or pronounced as D' A.C.A.B. (English anyone?). But this time it's a different agenda altogether. Blistering new sounds of Indie Rock with no limitations or boundaries whatsoever. The whole idea of it is simply for the freedom of expressions & to offer an alternative to the Malaysian music industry specifically & to introduce THE A.C.A.B.'s mixture of Asian & western melodies on independent rock music to the rest of the world, generally.

The debut album, 'This Is THE A.C.A.B.' is out now! For more information, log on to - www.theacab.com

The Times

This is The Times Rock n Roll band from Malaysia. The Band was formed on 31st August 2004 by two Brothers Naza and Mono, who are really into British mod culture and musical influences. Not long after that, Alem (ex- Nerd), Hamzah (DJ Acid Mods), and Irfan (Ex- A.C.A.B) joined the party after realizing that they have common taste and interest. The Beatles, The Who, Rolling Stones, Smith, Oasis and Stone Roses are among our favorites and inspiration. These are the bands that influenced us in terms of lyrics and songwriting as well as fashion and attitude... The band focus on ideas, creativity, originality and attitude... On 30 November 2004 the band released their 1st album entittled "Soda pop Rok n Rol". The album was nominated Top 5 best new artist to Anugerah Industri Muzik Malaysia 2005. an elegantly noisy pop celebration. By now their live shows were being talked of as something very special and they'd built an extensive, committed fan base. That's the history. Now in 2007 we have release our new records " NADA MELANKOLIK MALAYA" its a new benchmark for indie rock music with originality and fresh sound. Times are marching to new sound of melancholy.

Hujan

Formed in early 2006, this wave-worthy band consists of Noh on vocals and 2nd guitar, Dimas on bass, Iyag on 1st guitar and Ambobzeela on drums. Influenced by a diverse range of bands which include the likes of The Strokes, Butterfingers, and even Pot Amir Radiostaq, Hujan prefers to classify their music as alternative rock and has no qualms about delivering their material in Malay. Living and breathing the element they take their name after, their music alternates between the light, heavy and the torrential storm a reflection of the many stories, moods and agendas embedded in their songs. They sing about everything from love, God, family and to the happenings of the world.

Bittersweet

Bittersweet began in mid-2004 with 2 members who had the same musical interests. Both played in an Ipoh band before, and got to know each other well during that time. Herri and Zabil occasionally met to hangout and eventually decided to try their hand at writing music together. Both heavily influenced by British music, the two decided to put their heads together and record an EP, just for fun.
After the recording was completed Herri and Zabil distributed the material for feedback, which was mainly positive. When Zabil joined the Malaysian teaching force he had to quit the band, which left Bittersweet with only one of its founding members. Determined not to abandon what they started, Herri set about forming a complete line-up, particularly considering they'd been invited by Pet Projects to perform at Couple's EP launch. He enlisted Dinie as their bassist first of all, before adding Hafiez (guitarist) to the line-up, Pijie as Bittersweet's vocalist with Emai ..boards. Bittersweet finished recording their 2nd EP (Night and Morning Tales) on November 2004. They?|ve been invited for shows at PISA Penang on January 2005. The feedback of the 2nd EP and the shows at Penang which were more massive than before. Bittersweet have been invited for plenty of shows after that in KL and Penang.
Starting 2006, Bittersweet been received a rave reviews from the crowd and people mostly in Klang Valley itself. Bittersweet finished recorded their 1st single (A Perfect Match) on June 2006. The singles feedback was heavily impressive and the track A Perfect Match has been played in many radio stations such as Fly fm, Hot fm, Hitz.fm and Mix fm. They also had been invited to play for a show at Baybeats festival 2006. By the end of 2006, Bittersweet has launched their 1st debut album, Perfect Match, on 16th December 2006 during Rock The World 7. Two months later, after the album has released, they started for a tour around the country. The tour began at 10th April which the first place that they gonna rock was KLPAC, Kuala Lumpur. Then, they went to JB(11th March), Malacca(17th March), Penang(8th April), Ipoh(14th April) and the last place was Sarawak on 28th April. The tour was good and successful.
After the Malaysian tour, Bittersweet in planning to broaden their music to the audiences around the South East Asia region. Finally Bittersweet comprises of 5 members that are Pijie(Lead Vocals), Herri(Lead Guitar / Vocals), Hafie (2nd Guitar / Vocals), Dinie(Bass), Emai(Keys / Synth) and a sessionist drummer.
